About Ocean Lakes ES Home
The mission of Ocean Lakes Elementary School is
"To Open the Doors of Learning to All"
through a partnership with parents and the community.
We will strive to develop the potential of every student
by teaching the skills necessary for each to become
a contributing member of society.

Ocean Lakes Elementary School first opened its doors to the community in 1989 under the leadership of principal Mike Storm. Our current principal is Mr. Charles Grindle. We serve approximately 600 students from kindergarten through fifth grade and have a committed faculty that helps students achieve their very best, in partnership with involved parents and active community business leaders. Our community partners enhance the educational program by providing support where needed, such as volunteering time and services. Special programs at Ocean Lakes Elementary School include: after school tutoring, gifted and talented services, and special education programs. An on-site before/after school recreation program is provided by the Virginia Beach Youth-Based Activity Program administered by the Virginia Beach Department of Parks and Recreation. Our school's Plan for Continuous Improvement and a summary are available on this site. The comprehensive school division strategic plan Compass to 2015 is available on the school division Web site: VBSchools.com. Virginia Beach City Public Schools also publishes a school report card for Ocean Lakes Elementary School.

Ocean Lakes Elementary School is located near the Fleet Combat Training Center, Dam Neck, in the resort city of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Our students come from the Ocean Lakes Community. A significant number of our students are from military families serving at Naval Air Station, Oceana and the Fleet Combat Training Center at Dam Neck. Approximately 3% of our students are identified as academically gifted, 16% participate in the Free/Reduced Lunch Program, 12% receive Special Education services, and the student population has a Mobility Index of 26%.
